one of the best guitar lesson books ever written

This book changed my guitar-playing life.
Unlike most other guitar books, this one isn't about licks or how to play your favourite songs.
The book goes deeper than that -- to the fundamental elements of playing.
Speed Mechanics is definitely geared for the metal player, but the skills learned, such as good alternate picking, are applicable to ANY style of music. I've found my blues playing to be lightyears better than it was before I started.
Troy has figured out the most important elements of good lead guitar playing, and created exercises that develop those skills.
One warning though -- this is probably not for the beginning player. I'd recommend it for someone who has the basics already under control, but might be frustrated with their lead playing.
The book really depends on the use of a metronome, and it requires a lot of patience. I've realized that great skills come from hours and hours of practice. If you are willing to put in the time, this book is for you.

Worth writing a review for

I read every review on here and decided enough of them claimed that this book would provide results quickly that I'd give it a shot.
I received it two days ago and kid you not, am amazed at how my playing (speed and accuracy) has improved in that short time. I first listened to the CD and thought 'whoa, it'll be a year before I can reproduce that'. Then I got into the exercises. I put in 4 hours yesterday and 2 1/2 this morning. My arm is sore! More importantly, I'm playing runs that I would not have been able to two days ago. Now, I know I'll plateau, and struggle to improve after a certain point, but even if that point comes in another two days this book was worth the money. It broke me out of the "blues scale blues" and got me to rocking again. And it will only get better. I'm only 4 pages into it! Granted, I've been playing for 18 years, but 8 of those have been stagnent pulling my guitar out from under the bed only a couple times a year. I've got the bug again and this book is just fueling the drive to play better.

The Ultimate Lead Guitar Book

I haven't been playing guitar a very long time, maybe 6 years, but with the help of this tactical approach to speed, i am slowly picking up speed (even using my pinky, something i thought i would never do0. repetition and slow practicing is the key, and this shows you the way. don't get discouraged if you can't keep up with troy and his faster versions of each exrecise. keep it slow, work on it, and you'll get it. his view on finger independence is genius, literally introducing it within the first 2 pages of actual exercises. this is a good approach, and gives even those of experience a challange. though the cd is not essential for learning the routines, it does help and gives you an idea of where you are at when it comes to accuracy and speed.

not a begginers book! if you know what your doing and you could get you way around the guitar ok, get this book. it truely is the ultimate lead guitar book.
